前回の「うらしま太郎」に続き、Yellow Bird Projectさまの書籍の挿絵を担当させていただくのはこれで２冊目です。
今回、大好きな「秘密の花園」の挿絵を制作させていただけたことをとても光栄に思っています。
物語の世界を描くにあたって改めて原作を読み返したり、ビクトリア・エドワード時代のイギリスのお庭や服装、調度品などを調べたりするのも楽しい過程でした。
悲しみを抱えながらも、ガーデニングや周りの人の暖かさを通して傷ついた心が癒されてゆく登場人物たち。読んだことがない方にはぜひ原作もおすすめしたい、素敵な物語です。

The e-picture book The Secret Garden was published from Yellow Bird Project. (Click here for more information.) This is the second book I illustrated for the company, following the previous work Urashima Taro. I'm so honoured to have illustrated The Secret Garden, one of my favourite stories. This version is abridged, so the story differs a little from the original, but I really enjoyed going back to read the original and researching the gardens, outfits and interiors of Britain in Victoria to Edwardian era.
